About My Background

Psychotherapist is essentially my third (and most satisfying) career in the counseling professions, although the earlier two had rather different titles and rather radically different job descriptions.

In the first of these, I was the essential element in guiding young, burned out Los Angeles professionals into more fulfilling careers. In the second, I spent some years as the designated peacemaker in business and interpersonal disputes between parties whom I might now say were often definitely diagnosable.

That’s a retrospective look, through my current professional lens, at the key components of my two relatively long careers in the entertainment industry.

In the first, I was an agent representing writers at a large talent agency. My guidance was the catalyst for more than a few successful television and screenwriting careers. In the second, I was an attorney and business affairs executive at a succession of major movie and television studios. The ability to put difficult, sometimes explosive, relationships back together -- or keep them from blowing apart in the first place -- became a kind of trademark. Those stories you’ve heard about the volatility of ego-driven personalities in the entertainment business are not untrue.

All in all, a perhaps unusual but now often relevant set of post graduate studies for one who was to ultimately become a psychotherapist.
